She is was raised in a religious household  and educated in religious schools (including college), so I think her experience made her more open to the IDEA of ghosts and spirits and other paranormal phenomena than she had been before.   As far as open to having experiences themselves, I'm the one dubbed as the "weird one" in the family, lol.   Wink

You think she didn't experience it because of her believes?

Good question.  Personally, I think a NDE is a phenomena independent of one's religious (or lack thereof) beliefs.  I think that is evident in her case:  she didn't have encounters with angels or a light or a dead loved ones; she simply was observing the team work on her and even witnessed them preparing the death certificate (this was later confirmed by her doctor).

IMO, NDE is a process like death itself, except lacking the full transition from physical to spirit.

Never really thought of that myself about the transition between body and spirit.

With our society teaching to be closed minded to the Paranormal and all aspects of it. Do you think if your Mom hadn't been within this society would of see have experienced more?

I have experienced many things and so far (Knock on wood) I haven't experienced NDE. My husband has, but I can't say he is more open then me.

Another good question.  I think there are "levels" if you will of NDE, and I don't think with my Mom she progressed far enough for her to experience the Light or Angels, etc.  I do think she would have been open to Angels, being Catholic.

Since this was nearly 50 years ago, society and maybe even the Church wasn't too open to discussing these experiences.  So it wasn't until the mid-70's when shows like In Search Of came about where she felt more comfortable talking about it.

Yeah, it has gotten better but it still has along ways to go. We have all been taught from a early age to hide what we have experienced. So it's would be hard to determine how many people have actually experience something, but due to their "training" they never noticed it.

I work in the mental health field, working in this field I have to be careful who i talk to about my believes and experiences of the paranormal. Most of my co-workers know, but very few of my clients know.

I hear you.... I am careful who I talk to as well.  Most of my friends aren't interested.   I just recently FINALLY found a credible group in my area (after 13 years) who I feel comfortable with.  They are a science-based group that are in it for finding answers and helping clients - not for making a name for themselves.

That's good! That is an important thing is finding a team that you feel comfortable with.
