Most important part of any investigations is research.

Here are few good places to get information on a home.

  • If you own property you should have the abstract.
Abstract shows chain of owners of property, how person recieved the property example if if they bought it or inherited it. May also show how much they paid for it. Abstract also gives you names of all owners, Abstract goes back to when the goverment released the land to be sold. If you rent you can ask Land lord if you can see abstract.

  • If abstract isn't available you can try court house, go to land titles office. You may have pay for this.

  • A local Historical Society is another good place to go to. Alot of times they will have recorders for you town, County.
  • Senior Citizen Center is also good place to get information. Many of people in there loves to tell you about history.

  • Asking your neighbor's, Land lord or people around town.

Does anyone know where to find information over the internet about places and whatever.  I know that shows you see them looking at the library and on the internet and stuff like that but I was wondering if you all would know of anything...especiallly if you don't own the property which I know can be harder to find information!

Best is try the city sites, many of them have history of the town and location. As for property there isn't much you can find on line. Court House, Senior center, Historical Society are best you can do.

When I was Paying for ancestry.com and had the whole package I could go into land deeds and records. Now there are other genealogy sites that are free but I don't think they go into land deeds free.

I have looked up peoples gen. back to the 1600's and mine to the 1700's so I have no problem with what they have to offer. They have anything and everything if you are willing to pay for it .
